Munster Junior One League Division 1
Waterpark 19- Clonakilty 28
Waterpark failed to pick up any league points from this tussle with West Cork Side, Clonakilty on Saturday in Ballinakill. In a game played in idea conditions, Waterpark found themselves 14 points down after a whirlwind start from the visitors. Former Waterpark player Kieran Howlin playing on the wing for Clonakilty crossed for two tries in the opening minutes. The home side opened their account with a try from winger Scott Hornibrook when he seized on a loose pass and sprinted home from his own 22 to score under the post. This was the boost Waterpark required. They soon scored again, this time second row Eoin O’Connor went over in the corner following a great box kick from scrum half Vinny Molloy. In the remaining time left in the first half both sides missed penalty kicks which hit the posts. The score at the break was 14 points to 12 in favour of the visitors.
Waterpark took the lead for the first time in the second half with a try from fullback Oran Keevers with Out half Deegan landing the extras to put the home side 5 points up. Clonakilty hit back with a try following missed tackles from home side. With five minutes remaining the Cork side sealed the victory with a try following a 5-metre scrum that also denied the home side a losing bonus point.
Waterpark coped well for long period in the match against a physically strong side with the Clonakilty forwards eventually getting on top of the Waterpark 8.
With five league fixtures in the New Year Waterpark will at least need to pick up two wins to stay in this division.
