Munster Junior League Division 1:

Waterpark 12- St Mary’s 20

Waterpark began their league campaign with a home defeat to St Mary’s from Limerick on a score line of  20 points to 12. Within two minutes of the start the home side took the lead with a try from second row Darragh Power with Geoff Deegan adding the conversion. From the restart the St Mary’s forwards took possession and following a number of pick and drives they scored a try in the corner. Waterpark's out half Deegan missed a number of penalties, one penalty resulted in an St Mary’s players been sinbinned for a late tackle on Waterpark's Eoin O’Connor. The home side could not use their man advantage to add to the scoreboard. During this period it was Mary’s who added to the score with a penalty from out half Ben Sergeant. With halftime approaching the visitors forwards scored another try.  The halftime score was 13-7 to St Mary’s. In the second half Mary’s took control of the game with a well-worked try from their back line that Sergeant converted. At this stage it looked like the visitors would run out easy winners but the Waterpark side showed great determination and fight to take the game to their opponents with David O’Donoghue, Hugh Carrolan and Darragh Power to the fore. The home side got their reward with a try from winger David Hughes following a good move with both backs and forwards involved. Waterpark had more opportunities to score tries but failed to take them with the final pass often not finding the man.

Next week Waterpark travel to Cork to take on Mallow.
