'SAFE' - Standard Approach to Field Emergencies.

Dear Coach, Parent and Committee,

Waterpark RFC will be hosting the IRFU 'SAFE RUGBY' Level 1 Programme on Saturday 24th January 2015, time 08:40hrs to 16:15hrs.

'SAFE' - Standard Approach to Field Emergencies.

This course is delivered by professionals who work in the National Ambulance Service and medical staff specialising in orthopaedics, anaesthesia and emergency medicine. Participants do not have to have completed a first aid course before and it addresses concussion which must be taken seriously by all who are involved in Rugby.

'Safe Rugby' covers Basic Life Support/AED (Advisory External Defibrillation) and teaches the participant how to approach injured players and how to manage them in the correct way on the field until medical help arrives.

Before going on the course participants need to spend @ 1 hour online to complete their Heartsaver CPR AED Online Course. They will be awarded their certificate which they need to bring with them on the day.

'Safe Rugby' certification is awarded on the day and both certs are valid for two years.

The course is very practical with plenty of 'hands on' experience practicing skills learnt online and on the day. It is advisable to wear a tracksuit, t-shirt and runners. Participants will work in small groups of about six people and I attach a typical timetable for the day.

Booking is essential as the online 'Heartsaver CPR AED' course needs to be set up. The IRFU will require your name and email address for this. Also, each participant is required to pay €10 towards the cost of the day.

I would like to see as many coaches, involved at every level, senior players, any parents and any committee member who is involved with Waterpark RFC to attend this course in the best interest of health, safety and welfare in our club.  I ask you to book your place by Saturday 20th December 2014 so I can form the list in time for the IRFU and have the job completed before Christmas.

Tea and coffee will be available and lunch will be served @ 13:00hrs. Let me know if you have any special requirements for the day.

Further information about 'Safe Rugby' and concussion is available on the Child Welfare section of this website for you to read. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require anymore information.
